Can You Use an Apple Watch With an MVNO? Visible, Mint, and US Mobile Compared

Short answer: Visible and US Mobile both support it. There is a pattern behind that worth noticing before you pick.

And there is a pattern worth noticing before you pick, which we will get to.

Who supports a cellular watch

As of August 2026, Mint’s own help center said Mint does not currently support the cellular features on Apple Watch or other wearables. That is what Mint published. We have not been able to re-check it since, because Mint now blocks automated access, so treat it as unchecked rather than confirmed.

Your watch still works with Mint over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi when your phone is nearby. It just will not have its own connection when you leave the phone at home, which is the entire point of a cellular watch.

The pattern worth noticing

Every cellular watch option here points at Verizon coverage.

Visible says on its own site that it runs on Verizon. US Mobile supports watches only on Warp, which is widely reported to be its Verizon network, and not on Dark Star or Light Speed, which US Mobile names as AT&T and T-Mobile. Mint runs on T-Mobile, and listed no cellular watch support when we last checked.

So if a cellular watch matters to you, that decision is effectively made for you before you compare anything else. You need Verizon coverage to work where you live. If it does not, the watch question is settled and you should be looking at a different problem.

Companion versus standalone, which nobody explains

This is the difference that actually matters, and it is the reason to pick one carrier over the other.

Companion mode means your watch shares your iPhone’s number. Calls and texts ring on both. You need an active phone line on the same account. This is what most people picture, and it is what most carriers offer.

Standalone mode means your watch gets its own number and works on its own. You do not need an active line on your iPhone at all.

  • Visible is companion only. Their smartwatch plan works when paired with a compatible device.
  • US Mobile offers both. Standalone gives the watch its own number, and their documentation is explicit that it works even without an active US Mobile line on your iPhone.

That standalone option is the one genuinely distinctive feature in this comparison. It is what makes a watch usable as a small phone in its own right, which is a real use case for running, for a kid’s first device, or for anyone who wants to leave the phone behind.

If standalone is what you are after, US Mobile is your only choice of these three.

The difference is whether the phone is in the chain. Companion mode routes through it, standalone does not, which is why standalone is the one that needs its own plan.

What it costs

As of August 2026:

  • Visible - smartwatch service is $10 a month on the base plans, and included at no extra cost on the higher tier.
  • US Mobile - companion and standalone both start at $6.50 a month. Worth knowing that the companion plan is free if you are on their Unlimited Premium plan on Warp.
  • Mint - no watch plan listed when we last checked.

Both are usually well under what the big carriers charge for the same thing, which is generally why people go looking in the first place. Check the current number on the carrier’s own plan page before you sign up.

The fine print that catches people

Newer 5G watches connect over LTE for now. US Mobile notes this for the Series 11, Ultra 3, and SE 3. In practice a watch is doing notifications, calls, and streaming a podcast, so LTE is fine. But if you bought the newest watch expecting 5G, that is not what you are getting yet.

You need a reasonably recent iPhone. US Mobile requires an iPhone 6s or newer just to activate.

Visual voicemail has a gap. On US Mobile, it does not work in standalone mode on the 5G watches.

It is not only Apple. Visible supports Pixel Watch 2 and newer, plus the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8, 8 Classic, and Ultra. US Mobile supports Pixel Watch Series 2 and newer, but companion mode only, with no standalone option for Pixel.

So which one

If you want a cellular watch and Verizon works where you live, both Visible and US Mobile will do it.

If you want the watch to work on its own, without an iPhone line behind it, US Mobile is the only option here.
